Just like Christmas........almost.

How can I describe the rush of opening a glaze kiln and seeing the completed pots for the first time? There is an element of anticipation as the kiln cools...and the niggling worry about how the glazes worked. Even horrific accidents can be beautiful pots. I have one of those from college...a 24 inch tall bottle with a cratered glaze that is gorgeous, though the glaze was NOT supposed to bubble like it did.

Thursday, we glazed some of the pieces we made last week, and loaded up the kiln. After reading through the instruction manual for the electronic controls, Bonnie got the settings figured out and we turned that baby on. It only took seven and a half hours to fire, up to about 2200 degrees. I could hardly sleep for wanting to see how it worked. We let it cool for a few hours and finally opened it up and pulled the pots out about 11am. Here are two I brought home with me. I have a third, but it is a gift and I don't want to spoil the surprise by posting it here, knowing the person it is for will read this. :)

So, here is a small bottle, and a cream pitcher. Let me know what you think!
