Lizard spit -
I had lab work done a week ago and headed to the doctor (Endo's) office to get his review of the test results yesterday. My original A1C test, which tests the glucose attached to the hemoglobin and shows the average amount of glucose for the past about 3 months, was astronomical. A normal reading is 6%. Mine was a whopping 14.4%. I felt some perverse gratification to check out a diabetes forum on the ADA web site and find only one or two folks reported higher levels. Anyway, my recheck shows in six weeks, I reduced my percentage by five points. The doctor was ecstatic with this reduction. He also told me most folks gain 3 to 5 pounds for each point their A1c goes down, so my basically staying the same was a major victory. Frustrating, but still, a victory. Tonight, I start on a new drug. It is an injection, and I feel a bit nervous about it. I hope it works well. It is supposed to help with insulin resistance, by regulating the amount of insulin released according to the level of glucose in the blood. Supposedly, it was originally made from lizard spit. Gila Monsters... Cool...so if I become reptilian, you will know why.
