Setting goals... the 10K steps.

The big deal lately in fitness is the 10k steps idea. You wear a pedometer, and try and log at least 10000 steps in a day to help lose weight and achieve fitness. It sounds silly, but I think it works. Especially for weirdos like me, who are terribly competitive, even with themselves! I look at that number, and if its not the 10k I want, I will go walk around until it is. Perhaps this is not weird, but basic human nature. Anyway, I have wanted to achieve a big goal for a while. I wanted to walk all the way around the circle - about 2.75 miles. I have been afraid to try, and for weeks, have been going a bit farther each day to hopefully be prepared to do the full circuit someday. Well, this morning, the breeze was blowing, the sun was not too hot and I was in a crazy mood. Tom and I set out and we just kept going. We got to the end of our main street, and I said, "why not?", so we walked the whole circuit! It was pretty rough coming up "killer hill" - that hill that lasts for two full blocks and goes straight up most of the way- but I did it.

I guess I need to set a new goal now. :)
